Salty Tanks From The Future Invade PlayStation Home

by Tim Turi on Dec 17, 2009 at 04:47 AM

Denizens of PlayStation Home who are looking for the next big thing need to look no further. Sony announced today that Sodium One is the “next evolution” of the online social gaming space. Finally, your virtual counterpart can stop doing the robot and start blasting away future-tanks in an actual game.

The first game in the MMO-esque Sodium One Home space is Salt Shooter, a 50 level hovertank combat game taking place over salt plains in the future. Customizable weapons, armor, and the chance to unlock exclusive items for your Home avatar such as tank pilot jackets (which in turn get you in to a swanky VIP area) await trigger-happy gamers. Other games mentioned for Sodium One include Scorpion Stomp and Desert Quench. Your guess is as good as mine.

Would-be hovertank pilots hoping to get a free crack at Salt Shooter can track down an AI android known as VICKIE, who will be doling out 150 free access codes a day for seven days. Good luck elbowing your way through the crowds of fellow cyberpunk-rejects. Honestly, take a look at this trailer and tell me these characters don’t look like they should be playing with glow-sticks in a dark corner at a sci-fi convention.

Regardless, the game itself looks like quite a bit of fun and the presentation is well above Home’s other bare-bones community games. Anybody interested in upping their Sodium intake? Beware, as you should never exceed 3,000mg a day.
