New Nintendo Switch 2 Console Image Reveals C-Button, Enforces Mouse Functionality Expectations

Tomorrow is the big day for the Nintendo Switch 2. As promised back in January when Nintendo officially unveiled the Switch 2, a Nintendo Direct focused on the new console will air tomorrow at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET. Nintendo also shared this morning that the livestream will be approximately 60 minutes long.

Nintendo will also be holding follow-up live stream events with two planned Treehouse live streams on April 3 and 4 at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET. Treehouse streams, historically, have been more casual longform streams where members of Nintendo share developer interviews and extended gameplay looks at anticipated games. It’s safe to assume these streams will be comparable and focused on Switch 2.

Along with those details, Nintendo has also let slip a few other, smaller details via Nintendo Today, its new app that promises to deliver new Nintendo news and updates every day. So far it has made good on that promise by sharing the launch day of the planned Legend of Zelda movie – March 26, 2027 – and showcasing new images of the Switch 2. Today’s update shares a few subtle details about the console.

In the image above, you can see that there is a Joy-Con on its side in a position that may confirm the mouse functionality as teased in the console’s reveal trailer. The lower button on the right Joy-Con is also now emblazoned with a ‘C’, which was not present in the reveal trailer. On the Nintendo 64, the C-buttons were frequently used as camera control buttons. Later 3DS updates also had a C-Stick which, similarly, was also often used to control the camera. It was less a control stick, however, and more like a nub that you might find on an old laptop. This begs the question as to whether we can expect a similar functionality for the Switch 2.

Whatever the case may be, we will very likely learn about it all tomorrow during the Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Direct.
