Game Informer Is Back

by Matt Miller on Mar 21, 2025 at 05:00 PM

The whole team has returned, and we can’t wait to connect with you again.

I was devastated last summer when Game Informer was shuttered by our prior parent company, and so was the rest of our team. Not only did we really relish working together, but we also thought we were doing something valuable in contributing to the conversation around the gaming hobby.

The thing that caught us all by surprise was the reaction to that shutdown from our readers, viewers, and the broader gaming industry. I received countless messages speaking about growing up with the magazine, and the joy of paging through each month. For many, Game Informer was a gateway into gaming as a dedicated hobby. For some, Game Informer had become the spark that led to a career in gaming. After more than 30 years of publication, it felt like a genuine loss that reverberated beyond our close-knit team. It felt like something that shouldn’t be abandoned without a fight.

Over the months since, two remarkable things happened. The first is that Game Informer as a brand and an outlet was purchased and given a new lease on life. The second is that the entire team that was working together at Game Informer’s closure has returned, from editorial to production and beyond. The entire team. Seriously – I’m still pinching myself.

If you’ve followed our work in the past, you know what that means. Our outlet has always been about more than just the things we cover; it’s also about the people. Our teammates are stewards of a legacy going back more than 30 years, including dozens of prior writers, editors, designers, and other creative voices that shaped the way we approach talking about the gaming hobby. With the brand and team reunited, we can move forward with confidence that we’re maintaining that unbroken identity of who we are and what we represent.

How did this all happen? After first touching base with our team and ensuring our interest, the team at Gunzilla Games secured the rights to Game Informer. From the start, the new owners insisted on the idea of Game Informer remaining an independent editorial outlet; they felt just as strongly as our team did that the only path forward was with an editorial group that made 100 percent of the decisions around what we cover and how we do so, without any influence from them or anyone else.

Game Informer now operates under an entity called Game Informer Inc., and our intent is to continue to focus on highlighting the coolest games, celebrating the history and legacy of the gaming industry, and shining a spotlight on the creators and players who are charting its future. I am deeply grateful for the trust and enthusiasm from the team at Gunzilla Games; they see the same potential in Game Informer as our team does, and their encouragement to do so ethically and free of outside pressure is laudable.

As you can see, the website and its many years of back content are back. I invite you to look over any of the thousands of articles you’ll find here from so many talented voices over the years. And take some extra time to read some of our newest coverage; even when we couldn’t publish our thoughts, the team has remained plugged into games over these recent months, and we’ve got dozens of new reviews ready to go about some of the most impactful games that were released while we’ve been gone. We even have our belated selections for the Best Games of 2024; we’re eager to hear what you think we got right and wrong! Starting today, the site will once again see daily updates with news, reviews, previews, features, event coverage, and more. I hope you’ll check out what we’re up to.

We wanted to get the site back up and running for all of you as soon as we could, but there’s a lot more on the way in the coming weeks, including the return of Game Informer’s print magazine. Our intent is to bring back the magazine bigger and better than it was before, and add a host of membership and subscription benefits, including an expanded scope to our videos, streaming, and feature coverage, while also broadening the range of experts and partnerships we tap to bring you those perspectives.

If you’d like to be among the first to know about our new membership and subscription options, you can support us at this stage simply by creating a new Game Informer account where we can reach you with those details as they’re finalized in the coming weeks. As a thank you for the support, your new account unlocks immediate access to more than a decade of past Game Informer magazine issues, for you to peruse at your convenience. Registering and knowing of your interest at this stage means so much and helps us plan for what’s next.

As thrilled as we are to be working together again as a team, we’ve also been eager to arrive at today, and have the chance to reconnect with all of you in the broader Game Informer community. Whether you’re a longtime reader, a developer who we’ve featured in the past, or a newcomer curious about what we’re all about, I appreciate that you’re here. We welcome your feedback, questions, and comments as we take these first steps to relaunch. We couldn’t do this without you. We’re working every day to make your gaming hobby richer and better because you’ve chosen to check out what we do. Thank you.

Play well. Be well.
