Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
Ubisoft showed off a very brief look at a new level in its March 2012 shooter, Ghost Recon Future Soldier.
As
one would expect, the Ghosts start their raid on a desert airbase fully
cloaked and nearly invisible. This Gamescom demo was driven by two
developers, with two A.I. filling out the rest of the four-person squad.
Remember, the entire game is playable with 4-player co-op. One of the
Ghosts selected four different enemies to take out using the marking
mechanic, and when he pulled the trigger, the A.I. teammates shot and
the other real player was given a brief slo-mo window to join in on the
attack.
Even though four guards were dead, others witnessed the
attack and start firing. The Ghosts take cover and return fire. They zip
from cover to cover and eventually make it to the back of the airfield
in time to see the plane they're after fire up its engines. The next
goal? Shoot down the plane!
One of the players marks an engine
for everyone to focus on and they all unload clips of assault rifle fire
until the wing bursts into flames. It almost seems like it didn’t work
as the plane takes flight, but then it banks to the left and starts
careening downward. It explodes in the sand on the horizon and the squad
makes a beeline to the crash site.
Just when they’re almost
there, a massive sandstorm kicks up out of nowhere and blinds everyone.
Of course, they have a visor for that – this is Ghost Recon, people.
Once turned on, this visual filter brings structures and soldiers into
focus and provides a handy black line to the objective. Once they reach
the crash site, the Ghosts kill a couple dudes and Ubisoft exits out
before we can see what the team was looking for.
Even though the
demo was brief, Future Soldier looked like it could be a fun way to team
up with some buddies to take on the campaign in co-op. To learn more
