This Tales From The Borderlands Oral History Is Absolutely Worth Reading

by Imran Khan on Aug 09, 2017 at 03:36 PM

Over at The Campo Santo Quarterly Review, writer Duncan Fyfe has written and compiled an oral history of Telltale's Tales From the Borderlands, the 2014-2015 narrative adventure based on the world of Gearbox's Borderlands.

The article covers the genesis of how the game was first pitched, how it needed to differ from Telltale's The Walking Dead, Gearbox's pensiveness, and more.

Unfortunately, the article also mentions that Telltale was not happy with the sales of the game, and that the team did not internally feel happy with its success, despite the critical acclaim it garnered with each episode's release. Javy called it Telltale's best game and it would be a difficult argument for anyone to disagree. It does not look likely that the series will ever continue, though, which is a massive shame. It was a wonderful little title based on a property that does not necessarily lend itself to a strong narrative structure, which seems to bring out Telltale's best work.

Telltale has new Batman, Minecraft, and Guardians of the Galaxy currently in production.

Make sure you check out the oral history of Tales From the Borderlands at Camp Santo Quarterly for an incredible read and insight into the creation process of the excellent series.
