No offense, but when your biggest-selling game is Virtua Tennis 4, then it's no surprise that you've posted a loss for the quarter.

Sega reports that for the first fiscal quarter ending in June the company posted a net loss of 2.22 billion yen ($28.9 million), with sales falling 28.5 percent as compared to last year during the same period.

Virtua Tennis 4 was the biggest seller with 670,000 units, and Thor: God of Thunder and Yakuza: Of the End both moved around 400,000 units apiece.

Although Sega blames the devastating tsunami and earthquake as influencing the loss (primarily in its pachinko business), it also notes that there was weak demand for its games in the west, and that it "needs to adapt to [a] changing business environment in which the market demand for new content geared to social networking [services] and smartphone is expanding."
