Ubisoft Jumps On The Used Game Hate Train
Ubisoft announced via press release today that it will be deploying the Uplay Passport in its upcoming "core games." This one-use code gives access to the game's online features, and enables it to hook into Ubi's Uplay community/social service. If your game doesn't come with a code – say, if you buy it used – you can buy a code from Ubisoft for $9.99.
The Uplay Passport rollout kicks off with Driver San Francisco, which comes out in the U.S. on August 30.
How do these moves strike you? Is it a fair way for companies to get some profit from the used market, or a cash grab that asks gamers to pay more for what they were accustomed to receive for free?
