IndiePub And SXSW Partner For Propeller Awards

by Meagan Marie on Dec 01, 2010 at 03:28 AM

Joining the likes of the IGF and IndieCade, IndiePub is partnering with SXSW to promote independently developed games through a contest of its own. IndiePub will debut the Independent Propeller Awards at SXSW ScreenBurn, the gaming-centric portion of the annual festival.

“SXSW is where creative spirit thrives, so we're proud to be focusing more on the art and design of video games by partnering with IndiePub on the ScreenBurn Independent Propeller Awards,” said Justin Burnham, Account Executive of ScreenBurn. “With their history of helping raw talent refine their skills to create outstanding original games, IndiePub Games was the natural partner for this exciting new component of SXSW Interactive.”

The submission phase has already begun, with accolades planned for Best Art, Best Audio, Best Design, and Technical Excellence. Finalists will be provided with travel and lodging accommodations in Austin for the event, where they will demo their titles and compete for the Grand Prize. A sizable $150,000 is up for grabs, breaking down to $50,00 for the grand prize winner and $25,000 for each subcategory.

“Like SXSW, IndiePub Games was founded to create a channel for artists where they can share their work and their ideas,” states Mark Seremet, CEO of Zoo Games. “We are thrilled to partner with SXSW Interactive to showcase the inspiring talent and innovation found within the independent gaming community through the inaugural Independent Propeller Awards.”

Submissions will be accepted through February 18, and the grand prize winner will be revealed on March 13. You can check out the official website for contest rules.
