YouTube User Shows Kinect’s Interesting 3D Potential

by Jeff Cork on Nov 15, 2010 at 04:12 AM

If you’ve messed around with Kinect at all, it’s hard to discount the tech – even if you don’t like mixing your jumping and gaming. A series of hacks have opened up the hardware a bit, too, and enterprising users are just now figuring out what this thing can do.

YouTube user okreylos has posted a series of videos showing off what he’s been able to do with Kinect. It’s fascinating stuff considering how the device has only been out for such a short time, and it makes us wonder what kind of interesting things will be possible in the future.

In the first video, he shows how Kinect can capture 3D video, which can be panned and zoomed on the fly.

The second clip shows how objects can be measured in three-dimensional space, if you’re into that kind of thing.

In his latest video, okreylos answers a few user questions and explains why using multiple Kinects won’t solve some of the issues shown in the first two videos.
