Konami Has 'Glee' Fever; Karaoke Revolution Glee Is The Only Cure

by Jeff Cork on Jul 14, 2010 at 03:33 AM

Konami and Twentieth Century Fox have announced a licensing partnership that will Blow. You. Away. Well, it might if you like that Glee show. Konami will be bringing the Gleeniverse exclusively to the Wii this fall with Karaoke Revolution Glee.

"This is the kind of game that Glee fans, or 'Gleeks' as they're affectionately known, have been waiting for. We all know they've been singing along with their favorite characters during the show, now this game will let them rack up points in the process," said Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President, New Media for Fox Consumer Products. "This partnership also reflects our on-going strategy to develop Glee as a long-term brand at retail." You can almost taste his excitement about this upcoming consumer brand/product opportunity.

The game will feature 35 songs from the show, which are themselves essentially karaoke versions of the original tunes. Players can sing solo or harmonize with a friend. Do well enough, and you can relive pivotal moments from season one of the show.

Prediction: Konami will sell a billion kajillion copies of this game this holiday season. That is, it will unless fans of the show have moved on to more entertaining things such as reading shampoo bottles or falling off of bicycles.

Sarcasm aside, this is a fantastic move for Konami. Glee's fans are rabid about the show, and they'll likely gobble up anything relating to it. Casual viewers and players who don't even watch it might be tempted by the tracklist, which, while still under wraps at this point, is likely to include a ton of songs that everyone will probably be familiar with. For a party game, you really can't ask for much more than that.
