ThunderCats Return To The Small Screen
Everyone's favorite half-man/half-cat people are returning to television through a newly announced anime coming to Cartoon Network next year. The series is a collaboration between WBA and Studio4°C, a Japanese animation studio that has worked on The Animatrix, Batman: Gotham Knight, and Halo Legends. In addition, the production team includes folks who brought us Teen Titans, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The storyline seems to be staying pretty close to the form established in the original series, if the press release from WBA is to be believed. "The new ThunderCats will appeal to viewers who have loved the characters all their lives as well as young newcomers to the franchise," reads the announcement. "A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost – takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling. As the forces of good and evil battle each other in the quest for the fabled Stones of Power, Lion-O and his champions learn valuable lessons of loyalty, honor and mortality in every episode."
There's been no game announcement yet, but the recent announcement of the video game version of Batman: The Brave and the Bold, also from WBA, means that a video game incarnation of ThunderCats may finally be in the offing.
