PlayStation Celebrates 15 Year Anniversary
Here’s a fun way to feel old: The PlayStation was released in Japan on this date 15 years ago. That’s right. December 3, 1994, marks that day that the tech giant dove into the game hardware business after an aborted attempt at a partnership with Nintendo. Looking back, it’s probably safe to assume that Sony is pleased with the outcome.
The system launched in Japan with eight games, including two mahjong titles, a Parodius shooter and Ridge Racer. To commemorate the event, Sony of Japan has set up a slick little site, with an interactive timeline and pictures of old ads.
This will probably be a low-key anniversary in the states, but be prepared for lots of high-fiving and back-slapping when we get our 15th, in September 2010.
