Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition Gets New Episodes And Costumes

by Tim Turi on Nov 19, 2009 at 11:05 AM

If you’re anything like me and gobbled up every little bit that Resident Evil 5 had to offer, your ears will perk up at the news of Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition. This expanded content and retail re-release for RE5 appears to be similar to the the previously announced Alternate Version set for release in Japan. US gamers who already own RE5 can simply download the new bits or buy a retail version of Gold Edition with the DLC included for $49.99. Get ready for new missions, added mercenary characters, and a variety of wicked costumes. Not convinced? We've got a load of screenshots for you to check out.

You remember that mansion where Chris and Jill got their asses handed to them by Wesker? In the Lost in Nightmares DLC, available February 17 for 360 and 18 for PS3, you traverse the catacombs underneath Spencer’s mansion as the two original Resident Evil protagonists. Capcom promises a new “grotesque evil” is waiting in the bowels of the estate to disrupt the duo’s progress. From the looks of this huge dwelling, we expect some serious déjà vu from the Raccoon Mansion incident. "What a mansion!" There’s also a yet-to-be-detailed second episode slated for March 3 for 360 and March 4 for PS3.

The other big news is the “Mercenaries Reunion” content. Additional characters with new costumes and weapon load-outs aim to spice up the fast-paced Mercenaries experience. So far we’re looking at a Road Warrior-esque Chris Redfield and Sheva with a skimpy outfit and cowl. There are eight new characters in total. Could the “reunion” element of this new Mercenaries DLC mean we’ll see Leon and Ada return from Resident Evil 4? You can snag the new costumes two at at time, bundled with the new episodic DLC and as standalone packs.

Overall, Resident Evil 5’s DLC and Gold Edition are shaping up to be a worthy revisiting of a great game from the former half of the year. You know, that half of the year that’s easy to forget even happened considering all the other awesome games you're playing right now.
