TGS 09: New Version of RE:5 To Use PS3 Motion Control

by Jeff Marchiafava on Sep 24, 2009 at 07:16 AM

More news straight from the land of giant robots, Sony announced today that they’re releasing a new iteration of Resident Evil 5 for the PS3. The game incorporates not only new content, but also the PlayStation motion control that’s coming this spring.

Titled Resident Evil 5: Alternate Version, the game is reminiscent of the Nintendo Wii port of Resident Evil 4, which allowed users to use the Wii’s remote to aim Leon Kennedy’s weapons. Will the game take full advantage of the new technology to justify a repurchasing of the awesome game? It’s worked in the past…

We talked to Capcom about the title, and they’re saying that there aren’t any concrete plans to bring the game outside of Japan. Considering how popular the series has been worldwide, however, we’d be shocked if it remained there. (Sony’s also undoubtedly going to be leaning onto publishers to support its motion-sensor compatible gadget this spring, which can only help our chances to play it here in the West.)

If tacking on some motion-based controls isn’t enough for you, there is a rumor that the game will be receiving some Jill Valentine-flavored content. The character’s voice actress recently spoke with IGN about some recent voice work she did, and also alluded to a “director’s cut” type of RE5 project on the horizon. It turns out that horizon is Spring 2010, the same time Sony’s motion controller is due out.

However this turns out, there is no such thing as too much Resident Evil. Unless someone is involved who’s name rhymes with Villa Nova-stitch.
