Why Haven’t They Made These Games?

Like any geek worth their salt, I have a fair breadth of interests outside of video games. Sometimes I like to ask myself, “why hasn’t anyone made this game yet?”

I realize that some of these properties have already received obscure PC or Japanese releases, but most of these properties remain largely untapped. What do you think it would be like if they were made into games?

If previous attempts to turn an existing IP into a video game are any indication, these would probably all suck, but it’s fun to think about. What about you? What would you like to see turned into a game?

100 Bullets – Acclaim was working on a game based on Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso’s expert crime comic, but that fell through. Maybe D3’s attempt won’t get killed before it’s time.

Akira – Psychic teenagers, clown gangs, and the apocalypse, sounds like a video game already. You know Gears of War probably stole their space laser from Akira anyway.

The Authority – Wildstorm’s superhero team is like the Avengers or JLA, except they don’t mess around. They basically run the Earth, and they protect it from forces powerful enough to destroy it.

Deadpool – Marvel’s merc with a mouth is hot right now. It’s not hard not to see why. He’s like Wolverine, but more talkative, less hairy, and demented.

Doctor Strange – Who cares about Harry Potter, Doctor Strange is a real master of the dark arts. Maybe players could mix and match spells and artifacts to create new spells.

Doctor Who – Say what you will about it’s goofy nature, this is just good sci-fi at its most creative.

Ender’s Game – Orson Scott Card’s classic novel revolves around an in-depth strategy game. We want to play this deadly chess ourselves.

Enter the Dragon – Making a game based off of Bruce Lee’s most beloved film is risky business, but the original Xbox title, Bruce Lee: Quest of the Dragon, was terrible. We can’t let Bruce Lee go out on a note like that

Highlander – Eidos was planning a game based on the classic fantasy series about European immortals, but it got canned. If there can be only one, let’s hope it’s good.

Legend of Drunken Master – I don’t really know anything about the plot of this Jackie Chan film…and I’ve seen the movie at least half a dozen times. Who cares, the action is awesome!

Sandman – Neil Gaiman’s break into the world of fiction traverses time and space and deals with gods, demons, and men. There are so many topics to cover, the possibilities are nearly endless.

Seven Samurai – A game based on Akira Kurosawa’s classic film about a village of farmers that hire seven masterless samurai to defend them from bandits might be sacrilege, but I’m not going to stop anyone from trying.

Sherlock Holmes – I know there are some Holmes PC titles, but I’d like to see something more high profile. L.A. Noire is finally bringing us a good detective game, Sherlock Holmes needs to step up his game.

Unforgiven – Red Dead Redemption opened the door for a lot of western games; let’s hope other publishers take the hint. How about a game based off one of Eastwood’s best films?
