It's Official: NBA Jam Will Be Setting Wiis On Fire

by Jeff Cork on Jan 11, 2010 at 04:24 AM

Hey, What do you know? EA Sports has officially announced that NBA Jam is heading to the Wii sometime in 2010. The game is being developed by EA Canada, with promises of new modes, characters and depth. According to the series' creator Mark Turmell, NBA Jam earned more than $1 billion for Midway in arcades after being released in 1993. While that success might be a touch difficult to replicated, EA is certainly ready to take its shot.

“NBA Jam is one of the most recognizable franchises in videogame history,” said Peter Moore, President, EA Sports. “Diehard fans of the original game have been asking for a remake for more than a decade. We’re very excited to give them their wish this year with the return of this iconic franchise.”

EA Sports recently hired Turmell to work on Madden and NCAA football games, but it would be difficult to imagine that he wouldn't be brought on to consult with the team from time to time. Seriously, $1 billion.

What do you think? Are you excited about a new NBA Jam? Did you ever even play the original? What kind of crazy characters do you think will be hidden unlocks? Prediction: Isaac Clarke from Dead Space.
