Motion Control Comes To The Mushroom Kingdom's Caves In This Exclusive Video

So many aspects of Mario's past are crammed into New Super Mario Bros Wii, but it's certainly not against throwing new ideas into the mix. We've already taken a look at some of its new enemies, a quick video runthrough of World 7-5, and the series debut of teamkilling, but we've seen very little in terms of how motion control will be incorporated into the title. While the Wii remote can be given a quick shake to pick up items or give your propeller suit a boost, it also factors into some levels in a much bigger way.

Check out the video below to see footage of one such level. As Mario travels a dark cave on a raft, the player can control the direction of a spotlight by tilting the remote. Most of World 6-6 is shrouded in darkness, so manipulating the light while you stomp bats and Hammer Bros. is a must. In addition to the spotlight, you can illuminate various areas via fireballs or an invincibility star. You'll see both of these in the video, as well as brief looks at the propeller suit, propeller hat, and ice flower.

I usually don't care for motion controls, but I thought it was fine in this game

  • Sounds like a lot going on at once...hmm can't judge yet I'm going to have to test drive someone Else's copy

  • i think motion controls are best in moderation. not too little, not too much. has to be just right. kinda like how it was in Galaxy. this game looks like its gonna fit in just right too.

  • Agreed with above poster :-)

  • You've got to give it to Nintendo for trying new stuff.  Even if some of it is complete garbage.

This however, intrigues me.  I'm definitely interested in trying it out.

  • Sounds nice. I like that they didn't try to make too many things reliant on motion controls.

Why is Mario so short at the end I wonder?

  • @SmasherMeister: I really hope that was sarcasm at the end there.

On another note, this actually seems like a good idea, definetly going to check this out once it's released.

  • A question I would ask is can you comit suiside??? Mr. SmashterMeister, the controls would probably would be very simple and I'll bet on it.

  • Sound alright, but I'd honestly prefer to be able to plug in a Classic controller or WaveBird and let the C-stick take care of the lights. I know they won't give us that choice, but it's a nice thought, all the same.

  • Nintendo is always teeming with surprises for the new and true gamer. A worthy title for my "Wish List".

  • I'm really looking forward to this!!

  • Heeeey, this looks like fun! I figured it'd be all the same stuff as we've always seen before, but I dunno. This game looks fun. I like. I'm gonna pick this one up.

  • from the way i see i tthis is a mixture of Super mario 64, and super mario bros 2 i want to say..... but with the motion thing it seems interesting but i hope there are other ways for controlling things like for ppl like my gma who cant do two things at once in a mario game anymore......

  • Motion control will be cool in this game. This game will be really cool, Im definitely getting it when it comes out.

  • I haven't played this game yet, I need to

  • haha, looks okay i guess

  • So I looked for a trailer abought Naughty Bear but still cant find it. PLease reply back.

  • i have to admit, I was pretty hesistant about purchasing this game, but it works and it's a great game either way.
