It’s evident NHL 27 is a leap year for the franchise as it doesn’t innovate on the modes and immersion already present. Instead, it soft-launches patches that barely pass as a winter update.
Insomniac once again captures what works about a famous comic book superhero, but that makes this a very different game from the studio's prior releases in the genre.
This goes the extra mile with an impressive diversity of map types and victory conditions, board game-like competition with other rulers, and multiple vectors for expanding your power and influence.
The entire point of this game is to
bring cooperative real-time strategy to the next level. It accomplishes
that goal quite well, but does so at the expense of everything else.
Napoleon: Total
War may not rewrite history, but its subtle gameplay refinements,
tactical variety, and new multiplayer campaign do more than enough to
offset the litany of legacy issues hindering this otherwise impressive
strategy game.
