The Creators Of Soma Move To Space
Ontos was not playable at Gamescom earlier this year, nor were any developers from the Frictional Games development team on location (at least none I could find), but it did have a strange presence at the show: a giant wall of mechanical rats. Even among the dense Gamescom show floor, which featured sights like a gigantic inflatable Rayman, two yellow taxi cabs for two different games, and statues galore, Ontos’ giant rat wall stood out and stole everyone’s attention as they walked by. The wall recreates a specific location and experiment from Ontos, the new game from the creators of 2015’s Soma.
In Ontos, you are Aditi Amani, a woman looking for details about her estranged father on the moon base, Samsara. The moon base is home to a collection of scientists who appear to have fled the confines of Earth to bypass all the pesky morals and limitations associated with ethical research on our home planet. Here, it seems scientists can do what they want while they explore the nature of the soul at what appears to be the cost of humanity.
