Mech Versus Wild

The Gundam franchise is long-running for a reason; from Mobile Suit to recent hits like The Witch From Mercury, the mech anime has weathered the years as a banner-bearer for everyone who loves the idea of piloting a giant mechanized suit.

Gundam Rogue Orbit is trying to target a new segment of fans. As the team described it to me at Gamescom 2026, the goal for Rogue Orbit is to appeal to people Gundam hasn’t been reaching with something new. Playing it, Gundam Rogue Orbit certainly feels different than the Gundam games before it.

In Rogue Orbit, you still pilot the Gundam and play as a pilot mysteriously drawn to the power the Gundam offers. Rather than human pilots, factions, and great wars, though, you’re taking on strange beasts, mixtures of organic and mechanical, that act as much like monsters as they do mechs.
