A Timely Update

Nintendo has kept the Ocarina of Time remake incredibly close to its chest for the past several years, only formally revealing the game this summer and holding gameplay footage until less than two months before its launch. Still, finally seeing a truly modernized version of one of the highest-regarded games ever is incredibly exciting. After getting a look at the reveal footage, it’s a good thing Ocarina of Time drops so soon – I’m not sure I’d be able to wait much longer.

Despite its multiple re-releases and its status as foundational text in the video game space, there’s a decent chance you’ve never played the original Ocarina of Time. After all, the Nintendo 64 version will be 28 years old this year, and even its 3DS remake is over 15 years old. Even so, its reputation precedes itself; it’s perhaps the most critically acclaimed game of all time – the sole game to sit at a 99 average on Metacritic. It was nothing short of revolutionary in 1998 and has inspired countless games to this day. And it still holds up pretty well, all things considered. That it’s getting a ground-up remake even more in-depth than Ocarina of Time 3D is a huge deal. Nintendo has its work cut out for itself, but so far, things look good.
