Fable
After so many years, it’s safe to assume that Fable is just that for many dedicated players – a mythical story that predates modern experiences. While a few smaller or lesser-known games followed, the last true entry in the franchise, Fable 3, hit in 2010. In the long hiatus since, the mantle of Hero developer has passed to Playground Games. It’s a mysterious pick that has left me eager to see the resulting project. The studio has crafted some phenomenal racing games in the Forza Horizon series. But Playground’s capability to nail the action/RPG is as untested as the heroes at the start of each prior Fable game.
“We can’t wait to welcome players back to the fairytale land of Albion when we launch in 2026,” says general manager Ralph Fulton. “The Fable team at Playground Games is working hard to continue the wonderful legacy of the original Fable trilogy, while delivering a fresh new beginning for the franchise.” Early glimpses suggest the team is seemingly heading in the right direction, at least if you love the early installments as much as I do. Exhibited gameplay has been limited, but the melee, magic, and ranged options all look fun. The third-person visuals nail that mix of vibrant color and slightly exaggerated realism that defines the series. And it’s clear that ethical dilemmas and choice remain centerpieces of play.
