Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
TT Games’ Lego franchise is hands-down my most nostalgic game series, and one of my favorite entries is Lego Batman 2, largely due to its free-roam Gotham City. When I learned Lego Batman was not just coming back but taking notes from the Batman: Arkham series with deeper combat and a new open world, I absolutely lost it.
Legacy of the Dark Knight aims to be the ultimate celebration of DC’s most popular hero, with a story following a sort of “greatest hits” collection of Batman moments from comics, movies, and more. From the ‘60s show to Matt Reeves’ 2022 film, the hero is well-represented, with a collage of characters and scenarios highlighting the most iconic moments.
The gameplay excites the Lego fan in me as well. As much as I loved the games as a kid, the simple design isn’t as engaging to an adult, but Legacy of the Dark Knight changes things. It takes a lot of cues from the Batman: Arkham series, including counter-based combat, stealth, and even using your cape to glide through the open world. It’s also the first Lego game to include a difficulty system, so hardcore players can play on the Dark Knight difficulty setting for a real challenge.
