Chronoscript: The Endless End
Sometimes a game’s art direction alone is enough to sell you on an experience before you even get your hands on it. We eat with our eyes first, after all, and Chronoscript: The Endless End, an upcoming Metroid-inspired action game, stood out as the most visually striking title to emerge from September’s State of Play presentation thanks to its stunning hand-drawn art direction. And while the visuals pulled me in, the premise of a protagonist fighting to escape the pages of a storybook has my attention.
Despite its medieval appearance, Chronoscript is set in 2026 – the year the game is set to launch. Players control an unnamed editor who receives an assignment taking him to a mysterious manor hidden within the mountains. Upon his arrival, the writer is bitten by a mosquito and immediately blacks out; when he awakens, he finds himself trapped within the musty pages of an old manuscript written by the master of the manor. However, this is no ordinary story. The manuscript has been written for centuries without an end. You’ll need to find – or create – a conclusion by traversing its labyrinthine world, consisting of countless pages stitched together across stacks of books.
