Dragon Quest VII Reimagined
Square Enix has been steadily finding new ways to bring its classic Dragon Quest series to new audiences over the years, likely off the success of its massive 2017 open-world RPG, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Between last year’s Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, this year’s Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, and the in-development Dragon Quest XII (which we know very little about), it’s a great time to be a fan or a newcomer to the series. And if that wasn’t enough, Square Enix revealed Dragon Quest VII Reimagined during a September Nintendo Direct.
The game features a unique, diorama-like visual style that takes the classic 2D designs from the late, great Akira Toriyama (who was a lead character designer for Dragon Quest alongside his Dragon Ball work) and turns them into chibi-esque 3D models created using real-life dolls. Environments, towns, dungeons, and more have also been brought to life with a matching hand-crafted style, and the entire remake package is as bright and inviting as the original game.
