I can’t help but compare End of Abyss to Tunic, and that’s a huge compliment.  Tunic takes the top-down Zelda formula and puts it into an isometric world with challenging combat. End of Abyss does a very similar thing, but with the Metroid formula. I had the chance to go hands-on and I came away with nothing but excitement for its future release.

End of Abyss features Metroid’s signature labyrinth of a map with ability-gated areas, but I most immediately feel the influence in the game’s scanner. Like Metroid Prime, the player is equipped with a scanner that provides information about anything in the world they care to scan, from enemies to weapons to mysterious cracks in the walls. If you’re ever confused about what to do or where to go, you can probably bust out your scanner for a few hints you might’ve missed with the naked eye.
