Holstin
The headline for this preview implies a world where Resident Evil disappeared, which is admittedly false. There is a preview for Resident Evil Requiem in this issue. The franchise is going strong. But the series did pivot toward a much more action-focused direction following the release of Resident Evil 4. Holstin, from Polish developer Sonka, feels like it imagines a world where Resident Evil continued to iterate on its early pre-rendered backgrounds and specific camera perspectives to land somewhere a little different… while still retaining some compelling action.
Holstin describes itself as “a psychological survival horror game set in an eerie, isolated ’90s Polish town consumed by an ominous presence.” I had a chance to play through the game’s opening hour and take in the sights and personalities of its world, and walked (or more accurately, drove) away incredibly intrigued to continue playing.
