Ramblin' On

by Jason Oestreicher on Jun 20, 2014 at 07:35 AM

Today is my last day at Game Informer. Wow. That stings. Maybe recalling a fond memory will help?

As I sat on top of a moving tank, desperately clinging to the expensive camera I had been entrusted with, I couldn’t help but wonder just who I had pissed off to get this assignment. It was only my second day on the job. Was it Andy? I did steal his parking spot. Reiner? He really didn’t like my choice of Audiosurf for Roulette. Maybe it was a hazing ritual… like all new Game Informer employees are submitted to life-threatening trials by fire in order to weed out the weak. At the time, that seemed the most logical while I was on top of a tank, thinking clearly.

As it turned out, I think it was Hanson that probably didn’t want to die on top of (or crushed underneath) a tank and he figured the new guy was replaceable. Either way, I’m glad that he made me do it. It was scary as hell, but ridiculously fun. I knew in that moment I really loved my job.

Since then, I’ve taken over production on a good portion of the video content here on Game Informer. It’s not the high-profile, fancy-lad cover story stuff that Hanson does (VERY well), but I’m totally cool with that. Replay, Super Replay, and Test Chamber are a bridge to our community and I took great pride in providing for you guys.

So thanks are in order, firstly, to the community. Thank you guys so much for welcoming me and letting me be a part of this craziness. I hope you guys liked my stuff as much as I liked getting it out to you. To the GI crew, you lot are a fantastically talented bunch and an endless source of inspiration and laughs. I’m going to really miss you all… even Hanson. Not so much his laugh.

I’m a few days from moving out west for the new gig. It’s a scary endeavor and I’m very sad to be leaving GI, but road trips give me free license to buy as much beef jerky and energy drinks as I want. I’ll probably tweet about it.

I’mma get to ramblin’. See you guys. *mwah*
