It’s been fascinating watching the games industry reorganize its plans in recent months. Our cover story game this month makes for an unusual phenomenon that’s quite unlike anything else out there. Regardless of how the game turns out, it seems apparent that Grand Theft Auto VI is destined to be one of the largest entertainment launches in history. Once it became clear the game would target a late November launch, almost everyone else in the field cleared out and left the space squarely to Rockstar.

That effect has had an interesting impact on our game coverage. More than any year in recent memory, August and September have been awash in major game releases, and you’ll find our review section reflects that, with several long-anticipated games showing up earlier than we might have expected in the season. Likewise, we’ve been surprised to see how many other high-profile titles are also quietly shifting toward early 2027.
