Sony Reports Holiday PS4 Sales Of Almost 6 Million

by Matthew Kato on Jan 09, 2018 at 09:55 AM

Sony has announced that according to its estimates the PS4 has sold 5.9 million units worldwide during the holiday season (spanning from the end of November to the close of 2017), which is down slightly from the 6.2 million consoles it sold last year during the same time period.

The company says that this puts the system's total worldwide sales at 73.6 million units, and it also announced that 55.9 million PS4 titles (retail and digital) were sold during the holiday season.

In other recent news, Sony hopes to almost double the PSVR software library in 2018.

Our Take
Currently, there's no way of comparing holiday sales amongst the three console makers, as Nintendo hasn't released comparable numbers for the Switch and Microsoft stopped divulging its figures years ago. Nintendo has recently declared that the Switch is the fastest-selling home console in U.S. history with 4.8 million units sold in 10 months, and also announced 10 million units sold worldwide in early December. It'll be interesting to see how things stack up once Nintendo releases its own holiday numbers.
