Report: Nintendo To Dramatically Ramp Up Switch Production Next Year
Nintendo's popular console could see as many as 30 million units produced within the next fiscal year.
In a new story published by the Wall Street Journal, sources close to Nintendo say the company projects continued strong sales of the console through its next fiscal year, from April 2018 to March 2019. As a result, the company will produce anywhere between 25 and 30 million more consoles within this period. The final figure will be determined by holiday sales, with a chance to increase the estimate should sales be sufficient.
Since its release on March 3, the console has been highly sought after, with Nintendo projecting its sales to outpace the Wii U by the end of this fiscal year. However, this has also resulted in frequent shortages and supply issues among retailers.
The current sales figures for the Nintendo Switch are estimated at 10.37 million units sold, with 7.63 million sold in this fiscal period.

While the prospect of Nintendo ramping up production for the Switch is exciting, one should also consider that low supply has kept the Switch relevant to a lot of people as something exciting to be able to track down. While it could still sell quite well with plenty of units in stock, maintaining its rarity could keep potential buyers interested in snagging a console as soon as they see it instead of holding off because its readily available.
