Pokémon Go Shuffles Standard Raid Bosses For First Time

by Keenan McCall on Nov 06, 2017 at 03:40 PM

Niantic's popular AR game has swapped out several of its old raid bosses through a surprise update over the weekend. In its first refresh of the standard raid bosses since launching over the summer, Pokemon Go's raid system now has an updated roster of bosses and revised parameters.

Shortened from one hour to 45 minutes, every lower level raid boss has been replaced to further focus on the first generation of monsters. This shuffle comes ahead of Niantic's stated plan to begin rolling out the third generation of monsters in full beginning as soon as December following its flirtation with Gen 3 over its Halloween event. Despite this apparent focus on Gen 1 for its current roster of raid bosses, Sableye, the Gen 3 monster that first appeared during the recent Halloween event, joins the list of bosses you can battle and capture, while Gen 2 beast Tyranitar maintains its status as a Tier 4 boss.

Here's a list of the current raid bosses:

Tier 1

  • Ivysaur
  • Charmeleon
  • Wartortle
  • Metapod

Tier 2

  • Magneton
  • Sandslash
  • Tentacruel
  • Marowak
  • Cloyster
  • Sableye

Tier 3

  • Machamp
  • Alakazam
  • Gengar
  • Ninetails
  • Scyther
  • Omastar
  • Porygon

Tier 4

  • Lapras
  • Tyranitar
  • Snorlax
  • Poliwrath
  • Victreebel
  • Golem
  • Nidoking
  • Nidoqueen

Our Take
While it's good to see an update to Pokémon Go's raid system after a few month, the change to older Pokémon might be frustrating to those who want to catch more recent entries from the second generation.
