Gaming Forum NeoGAF Offline Following Sexual Assault Allegations Against Site Owner

by Suriel Vazquez on Oct 22, 2017 at 11:13 AM

NeoGAF is perhaps the most popular gaming forum in the US and in several countries abroad. Players and game developers alike view and post in its many threads, and it's where many people go to see what's going on in the world of gaming. Following allegations of its current owner, Tyler "Evilore" Malka, the site has gone offline.

The allegations first surfaced on Facebook, claiming Malka had made unwanted sexual advances. The allegations quickly made their way to NeoGAF, causing several moderators at the site to step down in protest.

NeoGAF is reportedly working on a statement regarding the accusations. However, without many moderators to monitor the content of its threads, the site is currently down "for scheduled maintenance."

We've reached out to NeoGAF regarding the allegations and will update this story as it develops.

Our Take
Considering other recent sexual assault and harassment scandals in recent weeks, it's encouraging to see the site's moderators make an unequivocal statement against Malka's actions. The future of the site remains unclear, however; will the site return at some point? If not, where will its readers migrate to? Social media now does a lot of the work NeoGAF did back in the day, but having a centralized hub that was easier to archive and read through for news gave the forum a strong appeal.
