Layoffs At Harmonix Following Release Of Dropmix
Gamasutra reports that Harmonix, the rhythm game developer being the plastic instrument boom with both Guitar Hero and Rock Band, is suffering layoffs less than a month after the release of their music board game Dropmix.
The company has been around for over twenty years but has had to scale up and down depending on the project. Unfortunately, this round of layoffs loses fourteen people in an effort to reduce overhead.
Harmonix's latest project, Dropmix, released in late September. The musical board game combined music with physical cards that included NFC chips in them, encouraging players to create mashups and play them back on their phones. You can find our impressions of the game here.
