Report: Layoffs At Volition, Developers of Saints Row
Volition, the developers of Saints Row and the recent Agents of Mayhem, may be undergoing layoffs, according to a report today from Kotaku.
The article states that the 200-employee company is losing over 30 people, including general manager Dan Cermak. Kotaku's sources point to the poor sales of Agents of Mayhem as the key issue forcing the layoffs. While public sales data for Agents of Mayhem has not been released and is unlikely to be so for quite a while, available sources like Steamspy indicate the game is not doing particularly well so far.
Volition was a part of THQ before the publisher's bankruptcy and subsequent collapse in 2012. In the years before THQ folded, Volition was a feather in their cap, with Saints Row and Red Faction Guerilla being critical and and financial successes for the company. Publisher Deep Silver picked up the Illinois-based developer in 2013, producing Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell and Agents of Mayhem, which did not fare well critically overall.
