Final Fantasy And Assassin's Creed Are Crossing Over

by Joe Juba on Aug 24, 2017 at 11:43 AM

Two of the biggest franchises in gaming have announced a surprising crossover collaboration. Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed and Square Enix's Final Fantasy are getting together to deliver some unique content to fans.

As explained on the UbiBlog, this reveal from Gamescom is the result of a mutual respect between the AC and FF teams, and the collaboration will have both series paying homage to each other's universes.

It starts with free content for Final Fantasy XV – an assassin costume on August 30, and a full-fledged Assassins' Festival DLC on August 31. The festival also includes the ability for players to use stealthy, assassin-like abilities to add a different flavor to FF XV's gameplay. You can see more in the trailer below.

So far, that's only half of the crossover equation; how Assassin's Creed Origins pays homage to Final Fantasy XV remains to be seen.

Our Take
I love both of these series, and while this crossover is a bit strange and unexpected, I'm actually excited to see the results. However, it seems pretty one-sided at the moment. We know how FF XV will be incorporating Assassin's Creed content, but I'm also curious about how the upcoming Assassin's Creed Origins will integrate elements of FF XV. I hope it's of a similar scope, and not just a few weapons or something.
