Fear Effect Reinvented For 2018

by Matthew Kato on Aug 21, 2017 at 09:32 AM

Square Enix and French developer Sushee are bringing back the Fear Effect franchise via a remake of the original title called Fear Effect Reinvented. The game is scheduled to come out in 2018 on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

More than just a re-release of the game with HD graphics, as the name suggests, Reinvented aims to create a Fear Effect experience that is up-to-date with modern titles. "We won't be making a simple remake," creative director Thibaut Romaggi told gamesindustry.biz. "We want to stay as close as possible to the original, but important aspects of the game will evolve." For instance, better controls is one of the aspects that the developer says it'll include.

Sushee's first experience with the property was via the more strategy-based Fear Effect Sedna brought to life through Kickstarter and the Square Enix Collective indie program.

Our Take
I can understand Square Enix being cautious, but given that the company already seems to know that Fear Effect is a viable franchise, I would have rather they commissioned a full-on new title from Sushee.
