Indie Megabooth Morphs Into Roving Megashow Festival
The Indie Megabooth is a mainstay at gaming conventions, serving as one of the predominant hubs for the best and brightest indie games heading to PCs, consoles, and mobile devices. Now founder Kelly Wallick is turning this touring booth into a full-fledged festival celebrating video games, music, and art.
Debuting on July 15 in Atlanta, Megashow "will feature indie and local community content across a variety of playful mediums to bring people together to celebrate and connect with one another," according to a press release. PlayStation and Adult Swim Games signed on to assist with the game curation, and the organizers are currently taking submissions for locals artists, musicians, and developers who would like to participate. Wallick plans to announce the line-up of games and performers on June 13, when tickets go on sale.
Eventually, the show will rove to new locations, featuring new music acts, art, and games. You can learn more about the show here. We should also note that this isn't replacing the Megabooth, your one-stop indie shop will still be coming to PAX, GDC, etc.
Our Take
Getting exposure can be tough for indie games, so these festivals could be a great way for developers to get their projects in front of likeminded gamers. The confluence of music, games, and art may also spawn some interesting collaborations down the road.
