A Gears Of War Movie Is Officially Happening
During Microsoft's Gears Of War 4 livestream, The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson confirmed that a Gears of War movie is officially in the works.
According to Polygon, Fergusson revealed during the livestream that Microsoft and Universal are teaming up to make the movie, which is currently in pre-production. Fergusson says that in order to make the best movie possible, the script won't follow any specific storyline from the games. "I want it to be this thing where it feels authentic to Gears of War," Fergusson says, "but I want it to, like, blow people's minds because it's actually a great movie first, and then it pays homage to the source material second."
A Gears of War movie was kicked around for years back when Epic still owned the license. However, things got a little more concrete at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, when Fergusson suggested he'd have new details to announce very soon.
While the Gear of War movie probably won't be out for a few more years, players can pick up Gears of War 4 next Tuesday. Still too long to wait? Come back tonight to check out our review of the game.
Our Take
While the movie news is
undoubtedly exciting for Gears fans, they shouldn't get too carried away just
yet. As with previous attempts at a Gears of War movie, a lot can go wrong
during the pre-production phase, leading to lengthy delays or the outright
cancellation of a film. Hopefully Microsoft has learned a thing or two about the
movie business since the
Halo days.
