NES Visual Compendium Kickstarter Resumes With Minor Changes Following Nintendo IP Shutdown

by Mike Futter on Jul 21, 2016 at 10:20 AM

At the end of June, just one day from a successful finish, Bitmap Books’ Nintendo Entertainment System/Famicom: A Visual Compendium Kickstarter was brought to a screeching halt. Nintendo had stepped in, and it didn’t look like good news for interested fans.

Three weeks later, Bitmap Books is picking up right where it left off with less than a day to go. A few things seemed to have changed. The title now includes the word “unofficial,” and the Nintendo Seal of Quality imagery has been removed.

It’s unclear right now if anything else has changed. We’ve reached out to both Bitmap Books and Nintendo for comment. We’ll update should we receive more information.

The Visual Compendium Kickstarter campaign goal was £25,000 ($36,733). The campaign continues to climb, with £170,487 ($250,677) raised at time of publication.

Our Take
This is fantastic news for the 3,700 backers that have voiced their interest in this book. It seems like Bitmap and Nintendo have chatted and ironed things out, paving the way for this attractive walk down memory lane. You’ve got less than a day if you want in on this campaign.
