Activision's Ghostbusters Is Coming In July, Not Connected To New Film

by Mike Futter on Apr 15, 2016 at 03:56 AM

Update: Activision has distributed the trailer widely. You can check it out below.

Original Story (April 14, 2016 @ 3:45 p.m. Central):

Back in January, the existence of a new Activision-published Ghostbusters game was leaked. At the time, the publisher kept quiet. Today, the silence has been broken.

USA Today has an exclusive trailer revealing the game for a July 12 release date (just a few days before the new movie). It doesn’t appear to be on par with the game featuring the original cast that came out in 2009. A mobile game is also in the works.

It doesn’t feature the new cast either. The intro trailer seems to point to a high school setting with a group of unknown proton slingers. The gameplay featured shows an isometric view and the poorly received Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime developed by Behaviour Interactive.

No developer is listed for this game, which doesn’t seem to have a subtitle. It’ll be out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can check out the trailer on USA Today’s website.

Our Take
I’m a big fan of the Ghostbusters franchise, so my fingers are crossed that this game delivers. However, not having a developer’s name or logo in the credits is a bit concerning. Let’s hope we don’t get slimed by this one.
