Harebrained Schemes’ Necropolis Delayed, Coming To Consoles And PC This Summer
Necropolis, an upcoming blend of roguelite and Dark Souls, was originally scheduled for release in March. That plan has been a bit de-railed, but there’s a reason.
Harebrained Schemes has signed with Bandai Namco to bring the game to Xbox One and PlayStation 4. All three versions will release simultaneously this summer.
Studio director Mitch Gitelman assured fans today that the decision to delay was Harebrained Schemes’ and not Bandai Namco’s. “While I hate to slip our release date, I know from experience that doing a console release right adds a significant amount of dev work,” he says. “It’s work that had to start right away (because consoles require a lot more lead-time for certification) but we didn’t want the console work to shift our focus away from launching on PC. So we believe this is absolutely the right decision, and that the additional time will make for an even better Necropolis for consoles and for PC.”

Our Take
Simultaneous releases make the most sense for studios to capitalize on a single promotional push. I’ve been impressed with Necropolis so far, and I’m looking forward to checking out the full version during the summer. Releasing during that time might better serve the studio as competition is also a bit lighter.
