by Connor Trinske on Feb 16, 2016 at 07:32 AM

The 30th Game Developers Conference is coming up next month, and with it comes the 16th annual Game Developers Choice Awards. Two of the winners have just been announced: Markus "Notch" Persson will be given the Pioneer Award, and Tracy Fullerton will receive the Ambassador Award.

The Pioneer Award honors breakthrough tech and game-design milestones. Persson will receive the award in recognition of his work in creating Minecraft and establishing Mojang as a studio. Tracy Fullerton is the associate professor and director of the University of Southern California Games program, and the Ambassador Award will be given to her for her advocacy and action in advancing games as a medium. Fullerton has played an instrumental role in the creation of a number of indie titles, such as Cloud, fl0w, and The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom.

The Game Developers Conference will take place between March 14-18 in San Francisco, and will be held in the Moscone Convention Center. The awards themselves will be held on Wednesday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. Pacific during the expo.

You can see the details of registration, passes, and pricing for the show on GDC's website. If you can't make it to the show, the awards will be livestreamed on Twitch.
