Chrono Trigger Tribute Album Chronicles Of Time Now Available
The team behind 2013’s Secret of Mana tribute album Spectrum of Mana give Chrono Trigger a similar multi-genre treatment with Chronicles of Time. As it turns out, Chrono Trigger’s soundtrack stands the test of time.
Chrono Trigger is an essential game for anybody who considers themselves a fan of RPGs. The musical score of an RPG can be just as fundamental as a compelling plot. Chrono Trigger wooed many with it’s potent combination of both, Yasunori Mitsuda's soundtrack probably what sticks with people the most.
The five disc tribute explores the different time periods traversed in Chrono Trigger, and appropriately switches up the genre for each era. You can listen to a metal rendition of the prehistoric era by Metroid Metal’s Stemage, or a high-tempo jazz reimagining of the present day with music from the Super Soul Bros.
Over 50 pieces were contributed by 13 different artists from esteemed video game music communities such as Dwelling of Duels and OverClocked ReMix. The project was spearheaded by Nate Horsfall, a veteran animator and visual artist.
Listening to reinterpreted versions of Yasunori Mitsuda’s compositions gives a fresh lens for nostalgia to be felt through.
