Yo-Kai Watch Scares Up November Release On 3DS

by Mike Futter on Aug 19, 2015 at 08:58 AM

Nintendo has announced that the $2 billion Yo-Kai craze will land here in November. That means it’s time to put the Pokeballs down for now and pick up your Yo-Kai Watch.

While the Yo-Kai have ghost-like qualities, Nintendo and Level-5 are being careful just to call them “Yo-Kai.” In the game world, fears and concerns often manifest as mischievous spirits. There are over 200 of the Yo-Kai available to capture and use in battle.

More than 8 million copies of the games have been sold in Japan, but the Yo-Kai blitz is more than just the 3DS title. In addition to the game launching November 6, Disney XD will premiere the animated Yo-Kai Watch show this fall. VIZ Media will be bringing the manga to North America, also.

Our Take
While it’s not a guarantee that the popular Japanese franchise will be a hit here, it has enough in common with Pokémon that it could make a big splash. With a blitz approach across media types, Level-5 is going to make sure that American kids know all about Yo-Kai this fall in some fashion.
