Reader Discussion: Is It Too Early For The Nintendo NX?
The news that Nintendo is working on a new dedicated game system code-named "NX" is exciting. However, for faithful fans who bought the Wii U, the announcement of a new console might sound like a death knell for a system that's only been alive for about 2.5 years.
Granted, the Wii U hasn't been a runaway success. In the face of sparse third-party support and analyst criticism, the Wii U has only sold about 10 million units – compared to the original Wii's 100 million.
From a financial perspective, it makes sense to move on. But does Nintendo risk alienating its hardcore fans? The gamers who bought the Wii U were probably expecting more than a few years of support for the system. Now that there's a new console on the horizon, does that make the Wii U even less appealing?
What do you think? Should Nintendo have waited to reveal this information? Or are you just excited to see what the future holds for iconic series like Mario and Zelda?
