Report: Dead Island 2 Beta A 30-Day PS4 Exclusive

by Tim Turi on Dec 02, 2014 at 12:50 PM

Zombie game fans that decided to pre-order Escape Dead Island (read our review) received a code voucher slipped into their copy of the game. That code unlocks exclusive assess for Deep Silver and developer Jager's upcoming Dead Island 2 beta. The catch is, Sony users are getting it considerably earlier.

The beta's launch date hasn't yet been confirmed, but PlayStation 4 users can rest assured they'll be getting access 30 days before Xbox One and PC users. Deep Silver hasn't confirmed whether beta access will be opening up to a larger pool of players who didn't pre-order Escape Dead Island. Dead Island 2 releases next year.

Our Take
Console-exclusive beta access is nothing new, but hopefully Deep Silver isn't robbing itself of any useful player feedback. The Dead Island series is in a weird spot following original developer Techland partnering with Warner Bros. Interactive for Dying Light, a spiritual successor to Dead Island. Additionally, Escape Dead Island was a critical failure, and Deep Silver could be risking alienating the most hardcore, pre-ordering fans of the series by making beta access exclusive to Sony users.
