Ron Gilbert And Gary Winnick Receive Kickstarter Funding, Won’t Microwave A Hamster

We want to believe that Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick never really intended to microwave a hamster (despite a threat on the Thimbleweed Park Kickstarter page). Thankfully, the duo have met their $375,000 goal, so we’ll never need to find out.
Last week, we covered Thimbleweed Park, a throwback point-and-click game. The title is a spiritual successor to Maniac Mansion, and designed to mimic its aesthetics and play style.
With 23 days left to go, Gilbert and Winnick are marching toward stretch goals that include translation for European territories, mobile versions, and at $625,000, English voice acting. You can read more about Thimbleweek Park on the Kickstarter page.

Our Take
Not only was this request modest, but the stretch goals all seem reasonable. Translation has a return on investment, mobile versions are logical extensions in the current environment, and voice acting would be an understandable (though unnecessary) desire. Combined with the pedigree of those involved, it’s not a big surprise that this was funded (and quickly).
