Disney Infinity 2.0’s Toy Box Will Be A Budget-Priced Download, Too
Disney Infinity 2.0 starring Marvel’s pantheon of superpowered heroes will be out in just two weeks. However, if tights and capes aren’t your thing, there’s another option that will be available later this fall.
Disney has announced a downloadable version of the Toy Box 2.0 creation mode for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U. This will use your existing figure base and all your original Disney Infinity figures to access the new world-building tools.
You’ll also be able to use the new playsets and figures, including the Disney Originals figures, should you choose. This means that should you decide later to add an Avengers, Spider-Man, or Guardians of the Galaxy adventure playset later, you can do that.
The standalone digital version will be out on November 4 (by which time all of the 2.0 playsets and Disney Originals characters will be available). The Toy Box 2.0 download will be available on PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and the Nintendo eShop for $29.99, with an introductory price of $19.99 on PSN and the eShop. Disney says you'll be able to use your existing bases on the new platforms, but we've reached out for clarification about just how that will work.
Additionally, those that purchase the the digital Toy Box will be eligible for the two game discs that come with the retail Toy Box set (Stitch’s Tropical Rescue and Brave Forest Siege). For more on Disney Infinity, check out our previous coverage.
Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes will be out on September 23 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Wii. A retail Toy Box starter will be out on November 4 alongside the digital version.
Note: This story originally omitted the Xbox 360 version of the downloadable Toy Box 2.0. It has been added in the appropriate places, and we regret the error.
Our Take
For those that don’t want to clutter up their house with another plastic base, this might be a good option (if you can wait until November). It all depends how you (and/or your kids) best like to engage with Disney Infinity. If your household likes the playsets, a starter pack is still probably the best way to go. If you or your family stick mostly to the Toy Box, this is a great choice.
