With Two Titles In Development, Three Fields Hires New CTO

Three Fields Entertainment, the studio founded by Criterion founders Fiona Sperry and Alex Ward, has announced a new hiring. After 18 years at Criterion, Paul Ross has joined his former colleagues as chief technical officer.

Ross was the chief technical officer at Criterion, according to his LinkedIn profile, overseeing that aspect of the Need for Speed series. He also helped establish the technical team at Ghost Games, which took over the franchise in 2013 with Need for Speed: Rivals.

Given Ross’ long tenure at Criterion, it stands to reason he was also involved in the Burnout franchise before the studio took over Need for Speed. Three Fields Entertainment is now composed of 10 employees, all of whom came from Criterion.

We know from information shared in March that the company has signed on to develop for Apple devices, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Three Fields says that it has two titles in development, both of which it hopes to release in early 2015.

Our Take
I’m eager to see what this team is working on. The Burnout series and Criterion’s contributions to Need for Speed under Sperry and Ward are racing games for people (like me) who don’t always love the genre. Whether Three Fields returns to the track or goes in a different direction, I’m interested.
